About ImPACTS

ImPACTS records and tracks progress for pupils with PMLD across seven Key Skill Areas (KSAs): Communication, Cognitive, Environmental Control, Physical – Gross Motor, Physical – Fine Motor, PSEWB – Self Help, and PSEWB – Self Advocacy. Each KSA is broken down into small steps called Modules, which are organised into Strands of sequential learning. Modules are colour-coded according to their completion status, so you can always see exactly where a learner is right now and what to try next.

Completing Assessments

Open one of your assigned learners from the Home tab, then choose a Key Skill Area to see their profile grid — stages across the top, strands down the side. Click any module button to open it and answer its assessment questions; 2 or more "Yes" answers marks it complete. Modules should be assessed and completed in order from left to right moving up through developmental stages (including a "Preparation" stage of foundational prerequisite skills for some KSAs). Some strands branch into different routes for progression.

Developmental Stages

Developmental Stages describe an overall level of understanding - either within a single KSA or a best fit 'average' across all KSAs for an individual learner. You can click on the header area of any Developmental Stage container to see a description of learning at that level. There is no formula to determine exactly which developmental stage a learner is at - this is a matter of professional judgement, informed by assessed and completed modules. Teachers can assign a best fit developmental stage either on the All KSA Profiles tab (using dropdown pickers), or on the learner profile overview page (using the star chart). You can also assign an Overall ImPACTS Developmental Level on this page.

Viewing Historical Data

Every learner's profile has a "View History" option that lets you pick any past date and see exactly what their record looked like at that point in time — the full profile as it stood then, not just a list of changes. Useful for tracking progress over a term or year, or preparing evidence for an EHCP review.
